Reach for the Sky
Released by the Rank Corporation in 1956 and starring the great British actor Kenneth More. Reach for the Sky tells the remarkable and inspiring story of how Douglas Bader, an RAF pilot who lost both his legs in a 1931 air accident, overcome his personal tragedy to become one of Britain's great war heroes.
The film is set at a good pace while Kenneth More gives a convincing and sensitive performance, following Bader's enrolment into the RAF during the late 1920s, and through his experiences in the Second World War.
Whilst More's personality differed to that of the actual man himself, and some sharp eyed viewers may notice a few minor discrepancies with certain props, the film offers original wartime combat footage and good honest acting.
Typical of the 1950s British war films, and being in black and white, Reach for the Sky, is certainly worth watching and is entertaining. It more that holds it own against more recent DVD releases.
